I went to my first rally last night. Bill Clinton and Barack Obama were in Kissimmee, Florida and luckily they held the rally at 11pm or I wouldn’t have been able to go.

35,000 strong is how many people the Orlando Sentinel reports were there.

They came out like old pals. They laughed at each other’s jokes and whispered to each other like new lovers. I heard Obama’s speech was going to be the same – parts of it were, of course, but the rest really wasn’t.

We all remember how great and prosperous our country was under Bill Clinton – what a guy, what a President! It just so happens he needed his dick sucked a little too badly. Unfortunately, he gave the Republicans ammunition against him. He lied under oath.

As a side note, a funny comparison…have you noticed that Bush won’t speak under oath? He lies so much that the Republicans would fall over themselves having to try and defend him from impeachment – that’s why the fucker’s still in office.

We all know how great Clinton was for our economy with each family earning $7,000 more than they were before him. He had some great lines and he’s definitely a looker so that helps. But it was the relationships that struck me. Sure, I loved when Barack said, “Bush has dug us a hole and now he just wants to hand the shovel to McCain” because it’s a great visual and oh, so true, but it was nothing to the looks Barack and Billy gave each other.

I know, I know, Republicans hate Bill Clinton. But no one can deny that our country prospered under his executive leadership. He made this country a glowing example to the rest of the world and he was an economic genius – exactly the type of guy I want to see Barack palling around with, especially at a time like this. It was a gorgeous site:

The man is everywhere – as someone once said, he really is like Visa, everywhere you want to be. Last night, I count 3 places: 1) his infomercial

Doesn’t it look like he was already sitting in the oval office? There should be no question now about what this man would do as President.

2) the rally

(“Who makes less than $250,000 per year? We do!”)

3) the Daily Show with Jon Stewart

A man who surrounds himself with people like Bill Clinton, Warren Buffett and the always great Joe Biden is a man who wants to do great things and wants to get the right answers before jumping into something like the economic crisis head-first.

A man who surrounds himself with someone who called us a nation of whiners and said that we are in a mental recession is not the type of person I want working on our economy.

Bring us back to the days of prosperity and leadership in the world. It is time to heal and put someone in office who has the judgment to lead.

I may still be a little pumped from the rally so for the first and only time I will ever say it outright on here – OBAMA ’08!

Who loves a liar? Television viewers, that’s who! Why should we want the truth when we can hear what we want to hear? McCain’s numbers were up when he was lying to us. Now that the lies have been debunked, his numbers are down. Maybe it’s because we’re mad at him for lying or maybe it’s because he wasn’t good enough at the game to make us believe the lies were the truth – after all, they are much more entertaining, aren’t they?

I’ve been appalled by Fox News in the past, but now it’s really getting ridiculous. I am amazed at how some people believe the blatant lies Fox News allows on air. A split decision in Pennsylvania? Ok, maybe Fox doesn’t lie…maybe they just see invisible leprechauns raising their hands. Who knows.

Gotta love the old lady in the background who ripped her husband’s hand down after the first question.

Unfortunately, visuals like this chart have ceased to surprise me.

As Scott McClellan has claimed, the Bush Administration has been feeding Fox its talking points. Considering Bush’s self-increase in executive power and his love of trying to control everything from habeus corpus (or lack thereof) to the 3-page bailout proposal vote, I’d tend to believe Mr. McClellan. Thankfully, people stop listening to the lunatic as his time in office winds down.

But people listen to Fox News. Who, after Scott’s claim, published an article stating the White House considered McClellan a disgruntled former employee. Wow! What a great way to prove that you are not in the pocket of George W. Spread the failed deflection to the drones who continue to believe the lies.

Then, of course, there is the debate ass-covering. Just in case Palin screws the pooch tonight, the excuse is ready to go! Gwen Ifill wrote a book called “The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama”. Fox News has latched onto this in the past 48 hours as though this were new information.

Greta Van Sustern said this:
“I confirmed for us here on GretaWire: the McCain campaign did NOT know about Gwen Ifill’s book (I think I told them when I made my efforts — emails about midnight — to find out!) I am stunned … the campaign (actually both) should have been told before the campaign agreed to have her moderate. It simply is not fair — in law, this would create a mistrial [emphasis in original].”

What’s interesting is that The Associated Press reported the book as early as July 21st. This was before both campaigns agreed on August 21st that Ifill would be the VP debate moderator. Even The Washington Post also reported on the book on September 4th.

It’s interesting that I, as a lay person with a small amount of resources can find this information, but Ms. Sustern and the McCain campaign (whose resources outnumber even Ms. Ifill’s, I’m sure) did not even google Ifill’s name before midnight yesterday to do their own research or confirm the accuracy of their verbal diarrhea. Stunning.

Good ol’ Fox News. We can always count on them to shield us from unnecessary truths.

We all remember this gem:

And the tendency for Fox to latch onto rumors instead of researching facts for themselves leans toward the edge of ridiculousness

Then our good friend Bill O’Reilly, who enjoys the sound of his own voice more than anyone I’ve seen, has his own host of lying videos online. Here’s the shortest one I could find:

Even a 6 year old can imitate such a moron

Thankfully, not all Republicans are sheep or drinking the money kool-aid that the Bush administration has been virtually bribing them with over the past 8 years. These angry people (mostly Ron Paul supporters – gotta love them!) tell Sean Hannity exactly what they think:

It’s too bad Rupert Murdoch takes the easy way out. After all, it’s much less work to just make shit up or read off talking points from statements given to you by the one man you’ve promised to blow as long as he promotes you and keeps your rich ass on top. It’s really nothing more than the National Inquirer for television. And they might even be better. At least the Inquirer doesn’t pretend they aren’t full of shit. Fair and Balanced my ass.

Lately, I’ve been having a bit of a writer’s block. Not because I can’t think of the words, but I don’t like any of the topics. I’m here for politics. And what is the main focus of politics right now? The economy. Sometimes, I just get so goddamned bored hearing the same thing over and over and OVER again!

So, let’s try a mish-mash of themeless writing, shall we? A virtual collage of sorts.

I live in Florida, near the Villages actually. You know what that is? It is the largest retirement village in the country and “America’s Friendliest Hometown” or so they say. It is also arguably the most conservative town in Florida, most likely because of all of the wealthy retirees. But The Villages is probably most famous for its STD breakout two years ago. I think syphilis was the big one. This may account for some of the poor judgment by residents of the Villages.

Last weekend, Sarah Palin was here. She didn’t take questions, she didn’t give policy information or fight for any particular subject. But man, there were a lot of people there! Obama was in Florida too. He went to Coral Gables and Jacksonville. Today, he’ll be in Dunedin.

Bob Barr was also here. There’s a 2×3 picture of him talking to someone in the local Panera Bread. No article accompanied the photo.

Sarah Palin on the other hand. Well, well, she must have done something extraordinary to have been on the front page of the newspaper 3 days before she arrived and 2 days afterward! 60,000 or so people attended her “speech”. I can only assume syphilis in the tertiary phase accounted for so many Villages residents being lulled by her painful accent. None of the media is reporting on what she said, just how big the audience was. So we can assume she talked about things we need to know, like “Troopergate”, which the jury is still out on. Maybe about rape kits. Not that I’m saying she did it of course, she just happened to be Governor when Wasilla’s residents were charged for their own rape kits. (On a side note, how are you supposed to prove rape without a rape kit? You can’t. So what if you can’t pay for that rape kit? Hmmm…). Someone should really ask her opinion on rape. Since we know, with her position on choice:

Shouldn’t someone just ask her what she thinks about it? My guess is the woman’s “fault” would be implied somewhere in her answer. But, of course, that’s my speculation.

Lacking substance in her speeches isn’t entirely her fault, though. It’s not like the McCain campaign is giving her a chance to actually get out in areas where the vote may be swayed or where everyone is not necessarily on her side. According to the McCain camps’ actions, she could never handle leaving after a speech at the GM plant and having people chant her opponents name, like McCain did

But she’s meeting with foreign leaders this week. The press was denied from any coverage at first, then they allowed cameras in without producers, then with producers but no newspapers or written press, then when the media started to threaten a boycott they were finally all allowed in. But NO QUESTIONS! Her freedom to speak to the media has seriously been lacking.

Campbell Brown has an opinion on Palin handling herself outside of the protective bubble and FINALLY someone in the news says what we’re all thinking:

Organization not being my strongsuit, let’s head back to Florida for a minute, keeping with our themeless mish-mash. Apparently, the RNC and John McCain are trying to confuse residents of Florida by sending them registration cards with fake ID numbers on them. Letters are being sent to democrats telling them they are registered as republicans and asking them to donate to the McCain campaign. This dirty trick has been reported by NPR. Between this and the GOP trying to deny people voter’s rights if their houses have been foreclosed on, I’m pretty sure I understand the debauchery of the 2000 election more and more every day.

And what’s better? We never get to ask questions. Sounds like the treasury bailout proposal written by this guy:

We’re basically hearing, “you have to do this or things will get worse, it’s your only option!”. You think we’d get sick of hearing that after 8 years, but man, we just eat it right up. And we’ve gotten less literate, which is why the proposal for 3 times the amount of money we’ve spent so far on the Iraq War is only 3 pages long. You know it’s good when Section 8 of the proposal says:
“Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by any court of law or any administrative agency.”

Well, that seems fair. Put us on the hook for the government’s errors. Errors that we didn’t question until we started this “mental recession”. After all, we are really just a bunch of whiners anyway, right Phil Gramm? Well, it would seem that we haven’t been this bad off financially since the Great Depression – now, there’s something I never wanted to hear in my lifetime.

My question is, why are we trusting the same people who got us into this mess to get us out? We are just supposed to blindly follow these “leaders” because no one has the balls to stand up to them? No thank you! If I wanted equity in financial institutions, I’d buy their stock. But that’s what we get when our taxes go toward this terrible plan. Everyone’s getting out of the market and this is Ben, Hank and George’s way to force us back into investing with our tax dollars.

Bush is going to leave a legacy alright, and if you’d like to vote for him, go here. Sometimes I just get so tired of being talked to like I’m an idiot, especially by a guy who can’t even say nuclear. Why should we trust him after all he’s done? Why should we trust them with our money after where they’ve brought us? We shouldn’t. We don’t know what they’ll actually do when given free reign. Hell, they’ll just pay people off because the rich just get richer. Except for the people who get laid off, right? Like Carly Fiorina? Oh wait, she got a severance package in the area of $40 million, while 20,000 people were being laid off from HP.

Who are we? We are those 20,000 people left in the dust with nothing but the memories of being had by people we knew we couldn’t trust. And we thought we’d at least have our self-esteem…

Right now, we’re all looking for solutions. I, personally, would like to see a being in a red cape fly in, calm all of our fears and fix all of our problems. He, of course, would have bulging pectorals, a square, masculine jawline, a deeply soothing voice, and the tightest ass you’ve ever seen. Instead, we’re looking at not-so-super-heroes. Hell, we’ve got a guy who sucks at bowling and a guy who sucks at telling the truth. So, they’re not perfect…I guess we’ll deal.

Sarah Palin had a fantastic idea (seriously). She made Alaska’s checkbook transparent so residents of the state could see where their money was going. She said she would do the same thing in Washington.

Except…it was passed and implemented about two years ago…by Barack Obama. Sometimes, I wonder if the McCain campaign is working for the Obama campaign. They just make it too easy! In McCain’s speech this morning, he scoffed at Nancy Pelosi saying “people don’t know what to do” about the economic status of this country. Well, Mr. McCain may know what to do for himself because his 8 houses aren’t in danger, but Nancy was right about me and the other “little people” around me. What are we supposed to do? We have no idea! Not something I’d expect anyone to scoff at…unless they had tons of money and married a beer heiress or something….oh, oops!

McCain becomes a hero to us for pointing out that Obama profited from Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac’s abuse and scandal. He received the second greatest amount from them of anyone in Congress, right?

Well, not entirely. Employees of Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac contributed $126,349 to his campaign.
Obama’s Contributors:

That is .0324% of what his entire campaign has raised. John McCain received $169,000 from directors, lobbyist, and other top echelon executives for the companies to Obama’s $16,000 from these same people.
McCain’s Contributors:

Wait, wait, wait? Is this a repeat of the Exxon claim? Where McCain’s contributors were Exxon executives and Obama’s were the employees?

Crap, I thought I’d actually found a guy telling me the truth…again, I’ve been dooped.

Then, of course, we all heard that McCain invented the blackberry.
You’d think that if he invented it, he’d at least be able to answer it. Just one of those things you forget when you pass a certain age, I suppose. Like what “straight talk” actually means.

And some more magic – McCain would fire the SEC chairman, Christopher Cox, if he became President.

Besides the fact that the President cannot simply fire him, Mr. Cox has already said he plans to step down when the Bush administration leaves office. Someone should buy Johnny a newspaper. Am I the only one who notices that positions that aren’t stolen from the Obama camp (change or “reform”, Iraq and Afghanistan, even the logo) seem to be those that McCain wouldn’t actually have to follow through on if we were stupid enough to elect him in November? You can promise to fire someone and, Lucky You! They’ve already decided that they were going to quit before you even said that.

And then, of course, there are those who just won’t answer a yes or no question with a “yes” or “no”, no matter how many times they’re pushed. We still don’t have a specific answer of why Sarah Palin is qualified in the foreign policy area. This nice lady gave her the opportunity to give specifics and explain away the critics:

Huh…maybe a simpler question is better. Let’s go to a McCain surrogate, Eric Cantor, in a non-related question of whether he and his party still support President Bush. Simple yes or no, right?

Apparently, not.

So, we’ve got no economy, no answers, no dignity, no expectation of intelligence in the American people, no houses…and it seems, no flying cape.

Man, we’re screwed.

Money, money, money, moooooonay! Money! MMMMMMMMMoney! We all need it and want it, but right now, most of us just don’t have it. Hell, even the things we do have we’re starting to lose…our jobs, our housing, our sanity!

So, what’s the answer? Well, we could end the war in Iraq and let the Iraqis use their 70 billion dollars of oil profits to clean things up. We could stop giving the biggest tax cuts to the people who can actually afford to pay taxes. How about we only speak about the economy in general terms? There’s no need for specifics, right? It’s just money.

I know! Earmarks! We cut earmark spending! That’s all we need, it’s the magic cure to all of our economic woes.

After all, earmarks account for a whole $18 billion! Wow, that is a LOT of money! There’s the fix, right there!

Wait, what? Our national debt is over $400 billion per year???? Well, what happens to the rest of that debt??? Eh, who cares, it’s not like banks are closing all around us or the dow jones dropped some insane amount or anything. When that happens, we should start to worry about that other $400 billion.
Tax cuts are reasonable, especially if we keep giving the richest people the biggest benefit of these cuts, right? Not according to Alan Greenspan. He says the country can’t afford tax cuts of the magnitude proposed by John McCain — at least not without a corresponding reduction in government spending.

But, but, he is cutting spending…see “earmarks” above. $18 billion cut from $3.3 trillion…let’s see that’s….1%? So, why is a 1% cut in spending getting 75% of the airtime for the McCain campaign? We need some mathematicians around here to throw some logic into the situation.
This little letter highlights that a local news station shows that McCain’s economic plan would give us a national debt that is $1.2 trillion higher than Obama’s plan. Trillion?!?!? I can’t even comprehend how much that is! Billion is a lot, but trillion??? Holy hell! I’m sure that has nothing to do with giving all of the rich people tax cuts, right Johnny?

But, even if that’s the case, we know how honest John McCain has been. Republicans are even going out of their way for Michigan voters to make sure that those who can’t afford their houses and are being foreclosed on don’t have to worry about the hassle of voting. After all, if the government forecloses on houses because residents can’t afford to pay bills due to the economy being in the toilet because the government has screwed the pooch in the past 8 years, it is the homeowner’s fault. And if they don’t have a house, how can they possibly “reside” anywhere? It’s just plain common sense! Someone else craps on your life and you have to pick up the pieces with not even so much as your right to vote.

The economic problems of this country can be solved by cutting $18 billion dollars worth of earmarks? I realize we like to have things dumbed down for us sometimes, but if you put a pile of 18 million pennies next to a pile of 3.3 trillion pennies, even a Kindergartner can tell you they’re not the same. They’re not even close.

Ah, television. I love it, you love it, our children love it. And it doesn’t require us to think at all! What a great invention! I know that after a hard day of blogging and work, in order to empty my brain, television is the best way to do so! And this week more than others, we have been flooded with ads. So let’s chat about them. Politicians must be aware that we are too tired to fight the slurs at the end of a long day so they try to give us messages that we’re too tired to dispute. Well, dear friends, today is a new day, which means a new blog and more objectivity. Let’s go through these ads together.

First, let us watch John McCain’s “Fact Check” ad. (This began airing on 9/10 and even though the candidates agreed that 9/11 would be an ad-free day, McCain ran one anyway…)

What I find funny about this ad is that Obama is being blamed for this “completely false…misleading” information, when in fact such information has come from emails and websites, NOT Obama. I suppose this is an early effect of not knowing how to use “the internets”.

Apparently, John McCain is getting weaker by the minute because we’re already seeing a trend of Obama vs. Palin from McCain’s campaign. Has he just given up, does he know something we don’t about his health or lifespan???

If you’re wondering what the section with the wolves is about, then you haven’t seen this:

This is not “dirt” that Obama is digging up on Sarah Palin, it just happens to be something posted on YouTube. Sorry, you can’t just blame your opponent for things they didn’t do just for fun. Or maybe you can? After all, that “bridge to nowhere” lie still seems to be working for them!

And did Obama say Sarah Palin was lying? Actually he said Sarah Palin AND John McCain are lying, which, if you pay attention to the facts of the election is pretty accurate.

We will go on to an Obama ad (started running on 9/9 and NOT aired on 9/11):

First, let’s look at some of the lobbyist McCain supposedly has on his campaign.

Mr. Rick Davis (you remember the guy who said “this campaign isn’t about the issue”, right? Of course, you do!), Frank Donatelli, Charlie Black, Randy Scheunemann, John Green…hell, I could keep going, but if you’re really that interested, just go here and look for yourself.
Fine, Mr. Obama smartypants, you win this round! But what about that bridge to nowhere? The McCain camp wouldn’t just lie, especially if such a lie had already been rebuked! That would just be crazy!

Let’s go to the source you claim said these things: The Anchorage Daily. There’s no way…

DAMN IT, Obama! Stop telling the truth!

Fine, how about this one?

Eh, shit…that one’s just about the issues, and as we’ve heard, the issues don’t matter. Stop trying to make us think!

This is probably one of my favorites:

Obviously, by watching this we know that Obama is encouraging Kindergarten children to have sex. They are after all, old enough to walk. It impresses me how stupid the McCain campaign thinks we are.

What Obama actually thinks we should be teaching Kindergartners is age-appropriate education, including sexual abuse. Remember good touch, bad touch in school when you were little? Apparently, McCain thinks our children shouldn’t learn that. All strangers are good, welcome them into your homes, children!

If you want to know where Obama stands on issues of Families and Children click here. He also believes contraception and abstinence should be taught to teenagers. I don’t know about you, but that’s completely ridiculous. Teenagers never have and never will be curious about sex. Just don’t talk about it and it will go away! Shhhhhhhhhhh!

I guess all in all, this is the best one I’ve seen:

But it’s politics. We expect people to lie, that’s pretty much the definition of politics, right? I mean, how many politicians really tell the truth? It would be great if they did, but we can’t really expect them to. Our standards need to remain low in order to not be disappointed.

Change is SO HARD! We’re just used to being lied to, why would we ever want anything different? The truth is too scary!

Ah, the audacity of ignorance….
