Any priest who complies with Attey is going to be assumed to have done so because he feared being blackmailed. He’s outed himself.
Why wouldn’t he wait to get outed and get the sympathy and support of his parishoners, colleagues, and the Archdiocese.
One way he’s laicized, the other he stays a priest. What would a smart guy who wants to remain a priest choose?

I too dislike that most people these days of every sexual preference are so apathetic, unaware and apolitical. It’s a product of this culture of entertainment, with entertainment being the new “opiate of the masses.” That said, the commentator might consider that some of us are not engaged in issues like so-called marriage equality because we don’t support them. I can speak only for myself, but I’m a politically conscious man who prefers men, and I see agendas such as gay marriage as that of a class of relatively privileged self-identified gay white guys and lesbians of or stemming from the upper-middle classes to consolidate their class privileges by becoming “normal.” Such agendas are about fully integrating into the existing structures of power, not challenging them. I suppose that’s to be expected when you consider who these gay activists are, where they come from, what their interests really are and who is left out of their agendas and ideologies (which are quite narrow and exclusionary). Fine. But for those of us who think power should be challenged and critiqued rather than accommodated and aspired to, gay marriage is a very bad joke.
